About AgriBit
Hello! I'm Mohammadmahdi Rezazadeh (my friends call me Pooya), and this is AgriBit. I'm glad you're curious about how and where AgriBit started.
The first spark: beyond the monitor
It all started with my passion for robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT) back in high school. By participating in various competitions, I discovered this fascinating world and quickly realized there was nothing I loved doing more. I think anyone interested in programming remembers those early days of piecing together small lines of code with the logic in their head just to solve a problem. It's a uniquely satisfying feeling. For me, that joy doubled when I lit up my very first LED by writing a few simple lines of code in CodeVision AVR.
The world of software had merged with the world of hardware and making things. From that day on, I knew I wanted to write code, but I wanted to see its results beyond my computer monitor; I wanted to “touch” the outcome of my code in the real world.
The search for a real need
This passion continued to evolve with small shifts in direction. When I entered the Computer Engineering program at the University of Guilan, I was eager to find a real-world problem and solve it using what I had learned. I consulted with Dr. Aminian and later Dr. Shekarian (my esteemed professors) and began continuing and redesigning a project started by an old friend. However, the outbreak of COVID-19 and the situation in the country during those years made it impossible to maintain momentum and reach a final product. As graduation approached, I had almost lost hope of completing a tangible project during my undergraduate studies.
The birth of AgriBit on the farm
Right around that time, Ms. Fojan Nazari, a master's student in agricultural engineering at our university, mentioned she needed a system to accurately monitor soil moisture at a reasonable price to advance her research. This was the starting point that brought me, her, and her advisor, Dr. Vazifedoust, together. The result was a small data logger that collected several environmental parameters and logged them for free on Google Sheets.
Shortly after, due to internet disruptions and challenges accessing external services, we decided to migrate the data to domestic cloud servers. It was then that I felt a unique opportunity had presented itself to implement the big idea I had in my head: building a comprehensive online agricultural platform.
A platform that allows you to connect any data logger (regardless of the hardware), securely store your data, view precise charts and analytics, and most importantly, connect electrical actuators (like water pumps, heaters, or greenhouse window motors). A system that lets you build smart automations, for example automatically turning a pump on or off based strictly on the soil moisture of your specific farm.
Today's features, tomorrow's vision
AgriBit's biggest advantage is that it is designed to be completely hardware-agnostic; meaning you are not limited to any specific device. Today in AgriBit, you can:
- Set up SMS and email alerts for critical conditions (like a drop in water levels or a spike in soil temperature).
- Invite your team and share your farm or greenhouse data with colleagues and agronomists by defining custom access levels (Viewer, Admin, etc.).
We envision an exciting future for AgriBit; from integrating with online weather systems and intelligent sensor failure detection, to adding an AI assistant that gives you daily reports on your farm's status and lets you discuss your needs in plain language.
